The Logitech Harmony One Universal Remote - Do you feel like you have too many remote controls? I feel that many of my remotes are overly complicated, quirky and usually do more than needed. Enter the Logitech Harmony One universal remote control. It condenses complete control over your home theater, computer, video game system and even ceiling fan into one sleek, easy-to-use device. Programming universal remote controls is usually a frustrating, time consuming process involving cryptic codes and trial and error. Logitech has refocused this process with easy to use computer software that will run on an Apple or Windows machine. Simply launch the program, choose the equipment in your home to control and the software automatically downloads the necessary codes from the Internet and programs the remote. The Logitech programming software has gone through significant improvements over the years which makes it friendly to the average consumer. In addition, Logitech now offers free telephone support to ensure that you are completely satisfied with their product. Older Harmony models had trouble with their docking stations, frequently coming out of their cradles, losing battery life and so on. Logitech listened to these complaints and incorporated an improved design with the Harmony One docking station. The One includes a rechargeable lithium ion battery which can operate the device without recharge for up to a week. Compared to it's predecessors, the One has fewer buttons, though its individual sizes and shapes make it easy to navigate without looking at the remote. Each time I pick up the One I'm impressed at how the buttons and touch screen display brightly light up, making it easy to see in the light or dark. Probably the most dominant feature of the One is it's elegant touch-screen display that lights up when handled. Various menu options appear on the screen depending on the device being controlled and an interactive help guide can be brought up to resolve problems with the device. The display also serves as a digital photo frame which showcases your favorite pictures when placed into the docking station. There is however, one complaint I've heard about the Harmony One: that it's expensive. At around $250 it certainly delivers luxury at a cost. The price should come at no surprise considering that it is the Cadillac of remote controls. It is however, a quality product that will no doubt serve you for years to come.
