By AMANDA WEBER Fox San Antonio SAN ANTONIO -- It doesn't take long for the long term parking to fill up and then parking attendants have to come out and redirect drivers to the park and ride lot. And that isn't really something people we spoke with want to do. "Who wants to park a mile away from the airport or across the interstate? I want to be able to walk from my vehicle to the terminal," says Greg Williams, Traveler. "It's bad, especially because it's so hot outside," says traveler Virginia Rivera. Construction on the airport's short term parking lot started a week ago, and that's when it seems all of this confusion and headache started. "Circling, a lot of people circling up and down on each level," traveler Gary Patterson told us. All of the short term and long term parking is now in this one garage, but the airport says they don't have any fewer parking spots than they did before. "So, we actually have 300 more spaces than we had before so its not that we don't have space, its that its being diverted into another area," explained San Antonio International Airport Public Information Officer Evelynn Bailey. That other area is the green lot, just down the street from the main parking garage that sits across from the terminals. Travelers park there and take a shuttle over. It's where travelers were being redirected Thursday afternoon when the main garage was completely full. The airport says it's a busy time of year, couple that with this new construction and parking is in high demand. It should be new and improved by 2017. "We still have alot of people doing vacations, this is a very very heavy traffic time here," says Bailey. So airport attendants and travelers say if you are planning to head to the airport anytime soon, just make sure you give yourself enough time to find parking and make your flight on time.
