DVD Ripping and Converting (mp4/mkv) for Free (PC). This process requires 2 programs; both programs are free, no ads and no bundled malware: The final output container will be either MP4/M4v or MKV. It's your choice, but I prefer MP4 every time as it plays on anything; PS3, Apple products, Android devices, PC... - DVD Decrypter -- http://www.dvddecrypter.org.uk - HandBrake -- http://handbrake.fr DVD Decrypter is very simple to use. You put in a disc, make sure the output directory is correct and click 'Decrypt'. DVD is quite an old format so most people will have around x8 read speeds. The entire process takes around 3 minutes on my machine, with up to 8+GB hard drive space per disc. HandBrake can be a lot more complicated. I don't expect BluRay quality from my DVD's and am happy with almost default settings. All I change is: - Detecine: Default - Decomb: Off - Deinterlace: Fast - Denoise: Weak - Quality: 20 With these options, a standard movie takes around 20 minutes to encode. Given I have a couple of hundred discs to go through, I consider it a reasonable time. My machine: - Q6600 2.4GHz quad core - 4GB DDR2 RAM - ATI 6970 2GB RAM - Windows 7 and XP partitions I've been told this will not work with Blu-Ray or HD DVD discs. I don't have either of these formats to test on, but have been told it is possible with other programs. I believe HandBrake will convert the RAW discs, but DVD Decrypter won't be able to decrypt them. So if you can find another decrypter, that should solve the problem?
